Opportunity Africa promotes sustainable development through education and enterprise. We actively create opportunities for individuals and communities across East Africa and work across a range of sectors including education, agriculture, finance, social care and environmental.
We see many individuals in East Africa with the potential and ambition to achieve a huge amount. Unfortunately, the circumstances in which many are born into keeps individuals entrapped in a cycle of poverty. We want to participate in changing this.
Opportunity Africa aims to provide individuals who have the ability but lack the financial capacity with the means through which to achieve their potential. We do this by providing financial support, mentoring and guidance. We look to partner with other organisations wherever possible and are currently working with various bodies in Uganda including smaller NGOs such as Youth With a Vision.
We strongly believe that in order to encourage sustainable development, simple handouts are not the way forward. Rather than developing a culture of dependency on aid, Opportunity Africa looks to empower and encourage self-sufficiency through support and partnership. We therefore look to structure our projects with some aspect of co-investment from the individuals that we support.
